    This course is designed to equip delegates with a thorough understanding of general and specific legislation, as well as guidelines governing safe excavation practices. It focuses on how to identify proper and improper digging techniques.

    As a safety-critical course, it includes both theoretical and practical assessments to enhance the knowledge required for safely excavating and maintaining holes and trenches using hand tools and handheld power tools. Delegates will also develop the skills needed to conduct or interpret Risk Assessments and Permits to Work, empowering them to implement safe digging practices through effective hand digging techniques.

    • Understand general and specific legislation and guidance pertaining to excavation, construction and groundwork. Example being: HSWA 1974, CDM 2015, HSG150, HSGG 47, Work at Height Regs 2015, PUWER 1998, Confined Spaces Regulations 1997, EUSMUNC07, EUSGNC007 & COSVR370.
    • Distinguish between good and bad practices via increased education in this specialist area.
    • Identity ground/soil types and changeable conditions faced on-site.
    • Carry out or interpret Risk Assessment and Permit to Work.
